A premiação do Golden Joystick Awards 2021, que existe desde 1983,contou com 22 categorias na premiação de games, com destaque para o Ultimate Game of All Time (em tradução livre, "Jogo de Todos os Tempos") para o Dark Souls.
Outro destaque foi Resident Evil: Village, que ganhou três premiações com Best Audio, PlayStation Game of the Year e Ultimate Game of the Year (que considera todas as plataformas). Final Fantasy 14 também recebeu duas premiações com Best Game Community e Still Playing Award (um jogo com longa vida útil).

Vale lembrar que Dark Souls foi o game que popularizou o gênero souls-like, visto que o seu antecessor Demon Souls foi o precursor – ambos os games da FromSoftware. Atualmente Dark Souls possui uma trilogia e a desenvolvedora irá lançar o Elden Ring em 2022, que teve a participação de George R.R. Martin (de Game of Thrones) na criação da história.
